Research to support evaluations of Workforce Australia – Transition to Work and Workforce Australia Employment Services (Workforce Australia Online and Workforce Australia Services)
Engaging program participants, providers and employers to explore program experiences, effectiveness, and satisfaction
Background
The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations commissioned Wallis Social Research to gather insights from program participants, providers and employers to inform the department’s evaluations of Transition to Work (TtW) and Workforce Australia Employment Services.
TtW helps young people aged 15-24 into work (including apprenticeships and training) or education. Transition to Work participants receive intensive, pre-employment support to develop practical skills to get a job, connect with education or training, find local job opportunities and connect with relevant local community services.
Under Workforce Australia, there are two mainstream employment services – online services (Workforce Australia Online) and provider-led services (Workforce Australia Services).
Process
The study involved mixed methods:
A survey of 1,500 TtW participants, with a comparison of group comprising Workforce Australia Employment Service participants
Interviews and group discussions with 45 TtW participants, 12 TtW provider organisation staff and 60 employers who had used Workforce Australia Employment Services to hire staff.
The research explored program participants’, providers’ and employers’ experiences and satisfaction with these programs and outcomes attained.
The findings of the research were used by the department in their evaluations of TtW and Workforce Australia Employment Services.
